چکیده

Endothelial bedewing is described as either a cluster of oedematous droplets or a constellation of leucocytes deposited on the surface of the corneal endothelium. The use of marginal retroilumination in biomicroscopy is described for the detection of endothelial bedewing. Some of the clinical characteristics of endothelial bedewing are outlined, and its occurrence in patients who are chronically endothelial bedewing may be indicative of a limited anterior uveal response associated with contact lens wear.

Infectious keratitis with corneal perforation associated with corneal hydrops and contact lens wear in keratoconus.

BACKGROUND Corneal perforation is an uncommon complication associated with keratoconus. The first cases of infectious keratitis and corneal perforation associated with corneal hydrops and contact lens wear are reported in two keratoconus patients. METHODS A retrospective chart review and histopathological examination were carried out. RESULTS Both patients progressed to corneal perforation ...

Guttate endothelial changes with anterior eye inflammation.

This report details the rapid appearance and gradual disappearance of guttate endothelial changes in a patient who experienced an acute 'red eye' associated with the continuous wear of contact lenses. This episode of acute inflammation was accompanied by a diffuse corneal infiltrate, endothelial bedewing, and the guttage changes.

Corneal epithelial and aqueous humor acidification during in vivo contact lens wear in rabbits.

PURPOSE Based on contact lens-induced stromal acidification of the cornea, it has been suggested that the corneal epithelial and endothelial cells also become acidotic during contact lens wear. This alleged acidification may have a role in altered cell appearance and metabolism during contact lens wear. This study investigated the effects of anoxia, carbon dioxide retention, and contact lens ga...

Differences between overnight and long-term wear of orthokeratology contact lenses in corneal contour, thickness, and cell density.

PURPOSE To investigate changes in corneal topography and morphology in human eyes wearing orthokeratology (OK) lenses for overnight and over a 5-year period. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-six adults with moderate myopia were assigned to 2 groups based on age matching: 5-year lens wear (n = 26, 51 eyes) and 1-night lens wear (n = 30, 60 eyes). All subjects wore reverse-geometry OK lenses with th...

A new look at refractive vision.

The quest for the optimal method to correct various refractive errors continues. In studying different contact lens designs and refractive procedures we are constantly evaluating different approaches to patient management. Recognizing that the cornea is a dynamic and vibrant anatomic structure, we must include other parameters in the equation of the "perfect contact lens fit" or "the best surgi...
